What is the Village to Village Network?
In 1999, a group of residents in Boston got together to look beyond conventional ideas about aging. They knew they would need help as they aged, but wanted to continue to enjoy the life they knew, surrounded by friends and familiar places. So they formed Beacon Hill Village, founded on the idea that seniors coud "take care of each other, rather than being taken care of." . Villages around the country are changing the way people chose to age. Since then, nearly 300 Villages have been created in 45 states and five countries ... changing the way we choose to age.
What services does Neuse Neighbors Network offer to its members?
Although some services are temporarily suspended due to COVID, we are resuming ALL services as soon as possible.
Simply put, our volunteers help with the types of tasks a good neighbor would do. For a list of the most common services we provide, click on Member Services! And if you don't see what you're looking for, contact us and we'll try to find a volunteer who can help, or put you in touch with an agency or contractor that provides the service you need. Our motto is "one call does it all!"
Who are Neuse Neighbors Network volunteers?
All of our volunteers undergo a thorough background check, and receive personalized training based on the services they have offered to provide. They are men and women who live in our area and are committed to making life a little easier, a little better, and a little more fun for our members.
How do members request a service?
It's easy to request a service. You can simply make a Service Request from this website (under the Members tab), or freel free to call our Help Line (252 665 8807) between the hours of 9 - 1 Monday through Friday. You may also email us at email@example.com for additional information, or to be contacted by a Neuse Neighbors Network Member Ambassador.
What if I have an emergency?
In any emergency, call 911. Neuse Neighbors Network volunteers are not equipped to deal with emergencies or urgent medical needs.
Do Neuse Neighbors Network volunteers have medical training?
No, our volunteers are not equipped to handle members' medical needs. Therefore, if you need assistance with taking medication, transferring to or from a wheelchiar, or dressing wounds, you will need to contact a qualified medical professional. Our Help Line volunteers may be able to put you in touch with an approprite service provider, assuming your need is not an emergency.
Who are Neuse Neighbors Network "Recommended Providers?"
Neuse Neighobrs Network maintains a list of local service providers who have been recommended by fellow members, and the fees these service providers charge are entirely at their discretion. However, some of these service providers have agreed to offer exclusive discounts or benefits to memers of Neuse Neighbors Network.
How do I know which Providers offer discounts?
A coupon booklet will be provided to all new members identifying the provider and the discount or benefit offered.
How much does it cost to become a member?
Single membership is only $120 per year, and household membership is $150. The term of membership is 12 months from the date membership fee is accepted.
What do my dues pay for?
Neuse Neighbors Network fees are among the lowest in the nation thanks to our all volunteer board and staff. Dues pay for the insurance needed for board members and volunteers, printing for training materials, membership in the national Village to Village network, background checks for volunteers, and software costs, among other essential expenses.
Are memberships available to those unable to pay?
Thanks to NNN's new Sponsorship Fund, we are able to accommodate a select number of individuals in our service area who would enjoy being a Member of NNN and who may need assistance paying our full fee. Please call for more information on how to refer a potential candidate for sponsored membership or to make an application.
Are dues tax deductible?
Neuse Neighbors Network is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization and donations to our organization are tax deductible. Members' annual fee, however, is not tax deductible.
How is Neuse Neighbors Network different from PrimeTime?
We have partnered with PrimeTime to provide the most comprehensive services possible to our members. Prime Time will continue to sponsor social activities and educational events, and provide health advocate services that promote the health and well-being of Pamlico County residents. Neuse Neighbors Network volunteers can help with light household tasks, provide social interaction, and offer private transportation for members' errands, shopping, medical appointments, etc. (For a complete list of services, visit our "Member Benefits tab on this website, or give us a call at 252-665-8807.)
Do I have to be a member to volunteer?
Although we encourage membership, you do not have to become a member of Neuse Neighbors Network to join our team of volunteers. However, membership offers many benefis even to those who do not currently need assistance. Benefits include discounts at local restaurants, retailers, and service providers, home checks while vacationing, and general help with household tasks.
What's involved in being a volunteer?
As a volunteer, you control the types of services you want to offer, and the amount of time you can afford to provide. You can apply to become a volunteer on this website. Just go to the Volunteer tab, complete the form, and one of our representatives will contact you to invite you to a volunteer orientation meeting. Please note that all volunteers will be required to complete a background check.
What's involved in my background check?
Your privacy is important to us. Therefore, we have employed an outside firm called Unique Background Solutions to perform the background checks on volunteers. It is a nationally accredited employment screening agency headquartered in North Carolina and incorporated in 2002. This is the same agency used by the national Girls on the Run organizaiton to vet its own volunteers.
Are volunteers insured?
Yes, Neuse Neighbors Network maintains insurance for all of our approved volunteers. Your volunteer coordinator will provide additional details about our insurance policies during your initiation training.
